Lead Areas

Each PHO has a number of key priority areas (or lead areas) where they take a national lead. Key roles and responsibilities for a lead PHO are:

NHS Health Scotland NEPHO leads on - Mental Health, Prisons Europe and International NWPHO leads on - Drug Misuse, Alcohol, Crime and Violence YHPHO leads on - Children and Young People, Diabetes EMPHO Food and Nutrition, Renal Disease, Teenage Pregnancy ERPHO leads on - Primary Care, Rural Health LHO leads on - Black and Ethnic Minorities, Tobacco, Health Inequalities SEPHO leads on - Physical Activity, Obesity, Transport, Coronary,   Heart Disease, Stroke SWPHO leads on - Sexual Health, Injuries WMPHO leads on - Cancer, Older People Wales leads on - Environment and Sustainable Development INISPHO
  • To provide the first point of contact with national bodies;
  • To maintain an inventory of work undertaken in the topic area by all PHOs (through interoperability of PHO websites);
  • To develop an inventory of data sources, methods, expertise and key contacts in the lead area.
