Details

This analysis supports the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme initiated by Public Health England, NHS England and Diabetes UK. Non-diabetic hyperglycaemia, also known as pre-diabetes or impaired glucose regulation, refers to raised blood glucose levels but not in the diabetic range. The analysis was carried out using Health Survey for England (HSE) data (2009 to 2013) and includes:

  • an analysis of the characteristics of people with non-diabetic hyperglycaemia such as age, sex, ethnicity and body mass index
  • an analysis of the sensitivity and specificity of the four commonly used risk assessment tools (Cambridge, Leicester Practice Risk Score, Leicester Risk Assessment and QDiabetes)
  • estimates of the number of people with non-diabetic hyperglycaemia at a local level
