Population Statistics

This section aims to provide a resource for information on types of population statistics available, how to get population data, as well as advice and methods on using population data.

PCT Population Estimates

The ONS publishes annual mid-year population estimates for PCTs in England. The current mid year estimates reflect the PCT boundaries in place on the 23rd October 2007, and include past years back to 2002.

As part of an ongoing project to improve migration and population statistics, during the year 2007 ONS revised their population estimates for the years 2002-2005.

Future Population Estimate Releases

New mid year population estimates are released by the ONS on annual basis.

Long term sub-national population projections

Long term sub-national population projections are published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on a regular basis. They project forward recent mid year population estimates to give an indication of future trends in population by age and sex for the next 25 years.

The projections are fully consistent with the mid year population estimates published for the year they are based off. They are constrained at a national level by National Population Projections.
