Welcome to SVG version of the Health Atlas for the
Yorkshire and the Humber
(Adapted from Eastern Region PHO website: www.erpho.org.uk)
Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) are a way of displaying maps and
other images which enable the development of powerful tools for
users to interact with information and data in a way which was previously
not possible. The YHPHO SVG Health Atlas delivers a variety of key
health statistics in a user-friendly single page combining table,
choropleth map and bar chart. The elements on each page are linked
so that, for instance, moving a mouse over a legend class highlights
all the areas within that class in the table, map and chart.
Downloading the SVG Viewer
In order to use the Atlas you will need to install a SVG viewer
plug-in. You can download the Viewer from Adobe.
The SVG works by downloading all the relevant information onto your
own PC and this is the reason why you may have to be a little bit
patient the first time you access the SVG Atlas. This should be
the only time the system has to download all the information, the
files are quite small and once loaded the SVG Atlas will appear
and respond almost instantaneously. This download can NOT harm your
computer. It is the same technology that is used by the Office for
National Statistics on the Census 2001 site.
Data Content
The tool currently contains some test data for the region. Over
the next few weeks a range of new data will be added to the atlas.
The maps use a choice of two geographies, Primary Care Trusts or
Local Authority. Clicking on the Notes button will bring up more
information about the data used. A link to the underlying excel
data is also provided
Copyright
All the SVG boundaries are based on digital boundaries obtained
from Ordnance Survey and are subject to Crown Copyright. You are
allowed to print one copy of each image for reference purposes only.
The making of multiple copies, the usage of the images for other
than reference purposes and any attempt to extract the vector map
data are all illegal and infringe Crown Copyright.
Printing
You can print a copy of the map page by moving your mouse over the
white space at the right of the SVG tool, Right click and select
the Print option. Please note that you will have to set the paper
orientation to Landscape to print the whole page. If you wish to
save a copy of the map page then please use the Alt and Print Screen
buttons and paste the image into another package (e.g.Word). To
print a Notes page simply Right click your Mouse and select the
Print option.
