Tobacco Control Briefing

Performance tracking : Tobacco control in Yorkshire and the Humber
In December 2004 a formal pledge on joint action to improve health and reduce health inequalities was made by North and East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire Strategic Health Authority, West Yorkshire Strategic Health Authority and South Yorkshire Strategic Health Authority, the Department of Health - Regional Public Health Group, Government Office for Yorkshire and The Humber, Yorkshire Forward and the Yorkshire and Humber Assembly. It focuses on four areas:

  • implementing the regional strategic framework for public health
  • devising a joint performance tracking process
  • building resilience and
  • realising the economic power of the NHS.

This report contributes to joint performance tracking and to the commitment within the framework to promote smoke free communities. This report aims to:

  • present a clear overview of comparative performance across the region in tobacco control
  • provide information on a common, consistent basis
  • provide a benchmark against which future progress in the region will be measured
  • assist in identifying priorities and to support local joint service planning
  • support flexible approaches to local joint performance management.
