Outcomes versus expenditure tool: cardiovascular
Explore the relationship between spending on cardiovascular care and clinical outcomes
This tool allows spending on cardiovascular care to be compared with outcomes by Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). The tool uses a range of cost measures linked to spending on cardiovascular disease such as prescriptions used to treat CVD and programme budget spend for coronary heart disease and renal disease.
The costs are compared to the clinical outcomes for each CCG. The clinical outcomes include:
- Admissions rates for cardiovascular disease and treatments.
- Percentages of people complying with the cardiovascular indicators in the quality and outcomes framework.
- Mortality for people under 75 from cardiovascular disease.
A CCG can be compared with ten most similar CCGs used in the NHS commissioning for value packs or the CCGs in the Office for National Statistics (ONS) deprivation decile.
This tool uses prescribing data
and programme budget data
available from the Health and Social Care Information Centre to calculate costs. The clinical outcomes information is taken from Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF)
and hospital episode statistics for admissions for cardiovascular disease. The outcome versus expenditure data includes QOF and prescribing data for the years 2012/13 and 2013/14.
